Butterfly Mark

We understand that people are increasingly interested in sustainability, but often don't know which brands reflect their values or have time to research the complexities of this topic. We make a brand's social and environmental actions accessible, helping people identify brands that care so they can shop with confidence. It's never been more important for brands to demonstrate a meaningful commitment towards sustainability. By earning our Butterfly Mark award, brands can differentiate themselves from others as a brand to trust.

What it means

Our Sustainability and Advisory Councils include experts from global organisations across an array of industries. The Sustainability Council annually reviews the assessment process to ensure all applicants are verified in accordance with the most up-to-date knowledge and insight. They help outline the actions needed to create a sustainable business. The Sustainability Council is responsible for reviewing the principle areas of sustainability across our five criteria: governance, social framework, innovation, environmental framework and philanthropy. This includes but is not limited to: current legislation, labour rights and law, and environmental policies. The Advisory Council helps drive meaningful change in terms of how the Butterfly Mark operates, both for consumers and within business structures. They provide practical insights to help us further our mission. These include advising on consumer perspectives, engagement practices for business and retail, and how to add value through transparent communication.
